Sounds of Independence 

The Robert C. Piercy Carillon

It chimes every day at 8:00, 9:00 a.m., 12:00, 12:15, 12:30, 12:45, 1:00, 4:00, 5:00 p.m., and then every 15 minutes until 7:00 p.m. On the weekends it also chimes every hour on the hour in addition to that listed above. It is also used to broadcast music to the town during special times of the year.

Fire Department Siren

Independence has a wonderful volunteer fire department. A siren is used to summon the volunteers for emergencies. It is also used to mark the noon hour. Every Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. the siren is sounded during fire practice.

Department of Water & Power Whistle

Listen for the D.W.P. whistle every weekday at 4:00 p.m.
